MOTORING: Cool Stuff you didn’t know you could do with your Keyless entry key fob!
Stuff like lowering your windows (sunroof too if equipped) to let out the heat without getting in!
The temperature inside your car can get SERIOUSLY hot on sunny days, regardless of the temperature outside. When you get to your car and it's boiling hot, what's the first thing you do? You lower the windows and blast the air conditioner, right?
A cool, convenient feature that's been around for years, but unknown to many car owners, is the ability to lower the windows with the key remote. This allows you to start cooling your car without having to get in first. Unless your dealer told you about this trick, or you happen to have read your owner’s manual (one in Ten Trillion people do), you may never have heard of this really old trick.
The trick usually involves pressing the remote's unlock button, releasing it, then pressing it again and holding it down. In some cars, instead of using the remote, you can insert your key in the door lock and turn it in the direction that unlocks (clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on the make), release, then turn it again (same direction) and hold. Cars equipped with a sunroof will also include it as a window in this operation, while some convertibles with automatic tops will shut.
Please note that this works on about 85 -90 % of all car makes, so don’t get pissed off or damage the unlock button on your keys (or break your fob with a sledge hammer) if it doesn’t work with the 1st few tries.
Thanks!
